Depression
Depression is a feeling of sadness and hopelessness. Everyone feels depressed sometimes, but depression is also a mental
illness. People with depression feel very sad and unhappy, that they have nothing to look forward and their life isn't worth
anything, some of them might feel that they want to kill themselves. They tend to stop going out a lot and might lose contact
with their friends or family. They might not have any interest in things anymore eg. going out with friends, listening to
music, reading, going to the cinema, restaurants or to the pub, going to school or work.
People with depression find it hard to make an effort to do things, like getting washed and dressed, eating, working.
Sometimes they eat or sleep less, but being depressed can also make you eat and sleep more. Also, sometimes they self
harm or, if the depression gets very bad, try to commit suicide.
If you're depressed, you should get some help as soon as possible. You should talk to someone, a friend or family
member and if you feel that you're seriously depressed, go to the doctor. The doctor can help you decide what would be the
best thing to do, to help with your depression.
